JACKSONVILLE, NC: Elderly Woman Desperate to Save Family Home

JACKSONVILLE, NC: Elderly Woman Desperate to Save Family Home

Jessie Mills, 87, moved into her home 66 years ago and still lives there today. Needless to say the decades have taken a toll on the home and it is in need of some major repairs.

Mom-s-house-jpg_003.JPG“My mom moved into her home in 1946 and wishes to die there, however the elements and hungry termites are working against her,” Mills' son, Bill, wrote in his nomination letter to the Angie’s List Wishmakers.

The elderly mother of three sons, all of whom live out of state, has diabetes and is slowly going blind.  Despite her failing health, she retains a youthful spirit; happy and grateful for any help that is offered.

On behalf Ms. Mills we are asking for your help.  Are you willing to be a Wishmaker and assist with any of the following projects?:

  • Replacement of windows and doors
  • Replacement of wood floors
  • Various plumbing
  • Various electrical

It is very hard to ask for help however, If anyone can help, I will spend the rest of my life paying back. My car was repossesed today by JD ByRider. I bought a 2002 Ford Taurus from them in 2011. Due to my 70 percent service connected disabilities, I havent worked since September 2009. Ive been supporting myself and two children on my pension and disability payments. My car payment was 364 per month. I made my payments every month on time for almost 2 years. This past October, CNAC the finance company tried to charge me more money stating I didnt have the proper insurance coverage with USAA. I looked over my contract from the car purchase and noticed I had 2 different contracts, one I signed one I didnt. Anyway, they repossesed the car today. I dont have a good credit score, nor a savings account. Going out and purchasing another car is not an option for me. If anyone can help, I will make payments.
