In many ways, the Reztlaff family is the typical American family - two working parents and three children.  However what they face on a day-to-day basis is anything but typical.
 
Roger and Lisa Reztlaff’s middle child, 16-year-old Jacob, is in a fight for his life.  The now wheelchair-bound teenager was diagnosed with brain cancer in May 2008.  Additionally, he and his brother, 22-year-old Eric, both suffer from severe autism.

The Vaughns were in need of some help and they got in in the form of some wishmakers who were "Paying It Forward."

Joe and Brenda Vaughn hit a string of bad luck recently. 74-year old Joe's knees and then his ankles gave out leaving him in a wheelchair. And 57-year old Brenda was diagnosed with cancer. With no health insurance, their medical bills piled high as their finances dwindled. The job market dried up for Joe who was in the lease financing business and Brenda had to quit her job as an educational therapist because of her health.

INDIANAPOLIS (April 20, 2009) – They say the home is where the heart is, but for Joe and Brenda Vaughn, home is where the help is.

The Carmel couple has been struggling with various medical troubles, including cancer for the past year and a half.  In 2008, due to her unknown medical condition Brenda was forced to resign from her position as a special-need teacher before being diagnosed with encapsulate cancerous tumors.  Within a short six-month period, she underwent two major surgeries including one that removed a nine-inch section of her bowel.
